Seriously- Lighting is EVERYTHING. The picture above is all same color, just different lighting. #Repost @guy_tang (@get_repost)
HairBesties, Have you ever wonder why certain colors never appear like what you think in your salon or when you take photos of hair colors? I made this chart to help everyone understand how hair reflects differently under certain lighting conditions. Many salons either have warm lighting and warm walls which will impact your hair color to appear warm so if your clients hate warm tones and see brassy orange in everything, you may want to change your lighting and the paint on the walls to be more neutral or clean. Flourescent lighting on the other hand is very bright but very flat, matte and cool in tone and often times reflect blue or green casts to the hair. However some may love that it absorbs brass and warmth but it also will absorb shine and reflection.
LED lighting is usually the perfect balance that I find but now they make warm and cool LED ring lights which is nice depending on which color your doing on that client.
What does this do to your perception on color?
Well, your rose golds will look more violet in flourescent lighting because the bulbs are more cool and blue but if you take them out in the sun light it will appear more iridescent rose pink.( of course your underlying pigment in the hair plays a role too)
Your "silvers hair" can look more violet or blue in flourescent light spending on how light you got your clients hair . And if you're in warm light. It will appear grey or taupe sometimes.
Your lavenders colors in warm lighting will look grey because the Violet tone cancel the warmth in the lighting and will reflect grey.
Bottom line is Lighting is everything. Always consult with your client, I always take my clients outside and inside lighting with a mirror to show them. Often times our clients panic and think their color is different, Hell... sometimes we panic as stylists but always trust that wet hair appear darker. And lighting is everything❤️❤️ @guytang_mydentity
