My heart and head hurt everyday over the current administration's antics. The recent decision to rescind DACA has left me utterly speechless... it's heartbreaking. Why? Why take away from upstanding hardworking individuals, who are models of what the "American Dream" is suppose to represent? These are NOT criminals or people who are abusing any sort of system the government has in place. To be eligible for DACA, immigrants must have arrived in the US before the age of 16 and before 2007, be at least 15 now and have been younger than 31 when DACA was announced in 2012, have virtually no criminal record, and be in high school or have a GED. These are our doctors, lawyers, teachers, soldiers, and entrepreneurs NOW and in the future. Displacing 800,000 people, or having them lose their jobs because they are considered "aliens" (such a terrible term) is WRONG. It will literally cost our government billions MORE dollars to end DACA than it will save.
My dear friend Nate aka @larryjalapeno wrote this and I literally could not have said it any better myself. So I am reposting his words because they ring so solidly true. "With DACA, children brought here out of their own control were offered a path to citizenship. They weren't guaranteed it, but they were guaranteed their application process wouldn't be used as a means to deport them. Now, ICE is saying although they won't use the master list of DACA applicants for a mass round up (for now), they will use it in some individual cases. I wish I could say this isn't the America I grew up in, but I guess it is. To be honest, I'm not sure this place is worth fighting for anymore. If America is going to hoodwink children who spent their whole lives here serving in our military, policing our streets, nursing us to health in medical facilities into giving the government information to deport them, then I just don't see the appeal of this place anymore and the American dream is a lie. I think of all this administrations misgivings, this may be the lowest." #imissobama #bringbackhope #daca #holdstrong #liveandletlive #fightforourrights #freedom #fightracism #loveeachother #nowalls #saynotodiscrimination
