Chicago was my first ever marathon -10/10/10!!! I was such a newbie! I had no idea what I was doing. I knew that I needed to run 26.2 miles, walk the the water stations, and take gels along the way. And I was told that my time goal should be under 5 hours. "Got it!" I said, and off I went. I met that infamous "WALL" at mile 16 and ended up finishing in 5:15. When I finished, I said:"Never again I am running another marathon, never, ever". And as you can see, I ran it 4 more times, and I am getting ready to run my 6th Chicago in 2 weeks and 12th marathon all together (5 last were BQ)
My journey was not an easy one. Countless early mornings, lots of hard work, sweat and tears.
My Chicago times:
'10 - 5:15
'11 - 5:18
'12 - 4:19
'14 - 3:32 ( my first BQ)
'16 - 3:39. '17 - ???
Chicago is a flat and fast course. I always go for a PR on this course. This year for me will be different, for the first time I will not be racing to get a PR, I have not even decided on my time goal. I still will do my best and will give my all, but I am promising myself not to be disappointed with the results.2 weeks ago I completed my first Ironman, which was my race A of this season, I ran a marathon in 4:25. I am not even close to PR shape, but I will work for BQ (3:45), and if that is not going to happen, I will be okay with that. ---------
Everybody who is running Chicago this year, enjoy our beautiful city and a world class race. Welcome to Windy City!
